What do I need to know about Arlo camera firmware updates?

Arlo Wire-Free and Arlo Pro Wire-Free camera firmware updates happen automatically as long as the cameras are connected to a base station, are powered on, and have at least 15% battery. If a firmware update is released while your camera is turned off or the battery is low, the firmware update happens automatically within 24 hours after you turn the camera back on, ensure that it is connected to the base station, and ensure that the battery is not low.

Automatic updates happen between 3:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. to minimize camera downtime during the day. If the firmware update is a major one, you cannot view your cameras live until the firmware is updated, but motion and sound detection still work and your cameras still record based on the currently selected mode. To view your cameras live, you can wait until the update happens automatically between 3:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m., or you can update manually. For more information about updating your firmware manually, see How do I update my Arlo firmware manually?.

Very rarely, your camera might go offline if your camera was turned off or had less than 15% battery during an important firmware update. If this happens, recharge or replace the low battery, make sure that the camera is on, and then resync the camera with the base station. The firmware update starts automatically.

If a firmware update is in progress, the LED on the camera blinks alternating blue and amber. After this, the camera's LED turns off for about one to two minutes while the camera installs the firmware. After the camera firmware update finishes, the camera syncs to the base station again and the LED blinks blue rapidly.

WARNING: Do not open the battery door or remove the battery while an Arlo camera is updating and installing firmware.

Base station firmware updates happen automatically between 3:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. while your base station is powered on and connected to the Internet. For more information about base station firmware updates, see How do I update my Arlo firmware manually?.

A firmware update might start automatically after you cycle power to your camera (power it off and power it on again). If a firmware update is in progress, the LED on the camera blinks alternating blue and amber.

While your camera is connected to your Internet network, firmware updates happen automatically between 3:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. If a firmware update is in progress, the LED on the camera blinks alternating blue and amber. After the firmware downloads and installs, the camera reboots.

WARNING: Do not unplug the camera or interrupt power until the firmware update is complete and the camera is viewable from your Devices feed.

If you turn off your Arlo Go camera's LED in the camera settings, the LED does not blink to show that a firmware update is in progress. While the LED is turned off, always make sure that you can view your camera live from the Arlo app or a web browser before interrupting power to the camera. If you remove the battery or otherwise interrupt power while a firmware update is in progress, your camera might become unusable.
